For our first visit of the summer season the Gs ventured back to the Northern beaches – this time our destination was Freshwater Rockpool. This 50m 8 lane sea pool is located at the Northern end of Freshwater Beach.
Freshwater Rockpool was pleasant but didn’t really excite us. Not sure what was missing but the Gs just weren’t turned on by it. It was a little green so that could have been it! If we would have checked the cleaning schedule, it was due on the day we visited and so we were not seeing the pool at its sparkly best.
The facilities are rustic – an outdoor shower and the toilets which were very smelly. Despite a ramp to enter the pool we could not see direct disability access. On our visit, the pool was not crowded only a few other people were around despite the plus 30C temperature. Nevertheless the Gs found a friendly gentleman to chat up about swimming and the joys of living at the Northern beaches.
The one thing we are learning on our journey is that the Northern Beaches have a wealth of free 50m ocean pools to train in. South Curl Curl and Dee Why ocean pools have impressed us on other visits with the wonderful swimming potential available for our Northern neighbours.
Freshwater Beach itself was beautiful and we saw school kids having a great day out doing surf activities. The chilled vibe and outlook was reminiscent of being in Byron Bay. This mood was echoed in the wonderful café where we ended our journey- Café Calm. Great coffee and food and the offer of picnic blankets to use on the nearby grass.
It was a lovely day out!
